A pregnant woman in Tennessee woke up this week after a four-month coma only to discover she had given birth.

Sharista Giles, 20, woke up this week after being in a coma since December.

In early December, Giles suffered severe head trauma in a car crash. She and some friends were driving home from a concert in Nashville when her mother said Giles’ friend fell asleep at the wheel, according to WATE.

Doctors said her chances of a complete recovery were less than 10 percent.

“The doctors were telling us there was nothing else they could do,” Beverly Giles, 49, of Madisonville, Tennessee, told ABC News. “They already gave up hope. We never gave up. She’s fought this hard.”

In January, Giles — who was five months pregnant at the time of the crash — prematurely gave birth to “Baby L” while she was in a coma. The 20-year-old opened her eyes for the first time in months on Wednesday.
“She has been looking around and squeezing loved ones hands,” according to a post on her Go Fund Me page.

Her aunt told ABC News, the new mother even got her first look at her baby boy.

Doctors are still trying to determine Giles’ prognosis.
